Miss Alabama

Adeline thought this was so much fun last night, and I had to get a picture. In case you can't tell, she's sitting on a map of Alabama while her Dad is trying (quite unsuccessfully) to plan our route to Florida. To my surprise she didn't try to crumple up the map, as she does with most other paper objects. But she did think it was lots of fun to sit on it and kick her feet to make noise.

Mack & Larry

I thought I would introduce you to the "other" members of the family. Meet Mack and Larry. I rescued these two from David's dad's clinic. They were such cute little kittens, and I'm a sucker. They remained nameless (or I guess they were called "the cats") until Vacation Bible School this summer. One of my sweet little second graders, Ashley, felt bad for the cats and suggested the names Mack and Larry. And I thought, sure, why not.

Adeline is CRAZY about these two. She will stand at the door and look at them as long as I'll let her. I can't honestly say the cats are crazy about Adeline, but we're hoping she'll grow on them soon.

We've got a climber

So, she suddenly figured out the walking thing, and now she's suddenly figured out how to climb ON EVERYTHING! If it's a semi-steady surface, she's going to get to the top of it. This presents many new and previously unconsidered dangers.

As you can tell, she's also mastered the art of keeping our house in a state of constant disarray.

I haven't jumped ship....

I just haven't had a chance to update our site in awhile. A lot going on, good and bad. But at any rate, here are a couple of new pictures of the star of the show. I like how she's "posing" next to Bully. : )

Big news: SHE TOOK HER FIRST STEPS TODAY! How exciting is that? She has been trying to let go of different props and tackle moving freely about for awhile now, and today, she finally succeeded! She took three or four big steps all by herself. It was really cute, and looked so strange because she is so little. We had a witness too. David's dad (who, by the way, has settled on "Doc" as his official g-parent name) was here and got to see the whole show. Now we just need to convince her shoes are a good thing.

Say a prayer for my Mom. She likely has a ruptured disc and has been in bed all week, pretty much unable to move. We are going to Seaside at the end of this month for Ashley's wedding, and Mom was sooo excited about getting to keep Adeline that week. Needless to say, she's really upset that she won't be able to now. It's important that she gets better though, especially since Miss Priss has figured out this walking thing!

We think it will be a lot of fun to take Adeline to the beach for the first time....I'm just a little nervous though, as this will be our first long trip with baby. I'm going to be contacting some of you (if I haven't already) to get your tips on traveling with a little one.

Okay, it's late and I'm tired. If I have lots of really terrible grammar and incorrectly spelled words, forgive me on this one!

I left my camera in Corinth....

Well, I wanted to post pictures from Justin's birthday celebration and Ashley & Tyler's engagement party, but I left my camera at my Mom's house. We had a great time this weekend, even if it was a little busy, and we missed getting some on Justin's birthday cake.

We went to an early dinner with my family, then to Pickwick for Ash's very fun engagement party. It was held at a gorgeous cabin overlooking the lake - the cabin was named Bide-a-Wee, I still haven't figured out what that means, so if you're aware, let me know. Ash looked beautiful and there was food and music to rival lots of wedding receptions I've attended. I'll try to post the few pics I got at a later date.

I couldn't leave you without something new to view. These pictures are from last week. When Adeline finds an interesting object, she will put it in her hand and crawl around with it. Well, some objects are obviously not easy to hold while crawling...such as a bottle. So, Adeline's solution? She just carries it around in her mouth like it's no big deal. David thinks it is "ingenious", I think babies are just resourceful.

Oh! And congrats to Melissa Patton who got engaged this weekend!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY UNCLE JUSTIN!

Well, his birthday is not actually today, it's Saturday, but I'm afraid I won't have a chance to post his very own little tribute later in the week. The most fantastic little brother and uncle will be 23 on September 2nd! You're getting old little brother. Most of you that know us know that Justin is in his second year of vet school at Mississippi State. And he is, by the way, numero uno in his class! We are very, very proud of him. Since I posted this quality picture of him dressed up for Halloween, I will be nice and post a sweet picture too...

Justin, this is the only picture I can find of you and Adeline, we really need to take a new one this weekend. Hope you have a good week at school....we can't wait to see you and Adeline can't wait to eat some of your cake!

It's bedtime...but she doesn't look sleepy

Our once great sleeper is not so great anymore. I was careful to not brag all that much (way) back when she slept like a rock for 8 hours each night. That was wise.

She does go to bed later now (the above photo was taken about, oh, 11:00 pm). Worse than the late bedtime is the waking up anywhere from 2-4 times a night. And worst of all, the waking up at 3:00 am ready to play! But, even in our chronically sleep-deprived state, we wouldn't have it any other way!

Thanks Aunt Judy!

For letting us be your guests at the Helen Britt show! That's Adeline checking out her new bag (that I hope to have monogrammed with her name soon). We spent Saturday with Mom, Aunt Haz, and Aunt Judy, and it was so good to see Aunt Judy. Adeline loves visiting with her, and we could almost make out a new word, "Ju, Ju"!

It's Harper!

We also got to see Casey, Bethany and Harper this weekend! For those who don't recognize them, these are David's friends from way back that I have adopted too. Harper is two and a half months younger than Adeline and we feel so blessed that we can share these fun times with them. As you can tell from the pics, Harper has the sweetest little personality and the most beautiful brown eyes.

I don't know if you can exactly tell, but Adeline was determined to give Harper a kiss, while poor Harper could only look at her with a "what are you doing?" expression. The Hessers are hopefully moving to Hernando soon, which means Adeline with get to hang out with her BFF more often!

"OK, you need one with Daddy's name on it soon..."

OK! Finally! The Blogger and I have met in the middle. After I downloaded a new browser (Firefox), I can finally upload pictures again. Turns out Blogger doesn't support Safari. Go figure. I can say though, that's the first little problem I've had with anything since I've had the Mac.

So here are the pictures from our evening with Shane. It was really good to see him - he's doing well and has the most incredible bachelor pad you've ever seen. We took a quick little trip to see his house after dinner, and we LOVED it. Very neat, very clean. And NEW, most importantly. Since we Slocums currently live in the 1970's style-bathtub-won't-come-clean (but thank gosh it's rent free) place, we were certainly impressed.

It took Adeline a little while to warm up, but by the end of our meal, as you can see, Shane was teaching her the finer points of putting down the plastic. David was watching with increasing worry.

AHHHH! Blogger!

I have pictures from the weekend, but I finally understand what people mean when they say, "Blogger won't let me post pics." Maybe I'll have more luck later....

Cookie Monster

I guess graham cracker monster is more accurate, but not nearly as catchy. Adeline could eat her weight in those things! And she goes after them with such intensity, you would think it was brain surgery! Since she has (almost) two teeth, she does pretty well.

Thanks for all the sweet comments you've been leaving. We have the best family and friends!

I CAN actually see the resemblance here....

For those who don't recognize these two, this is my precious girl and my precious Mom. Cute huh? (Check out how fantastic my Mom's skin looks...please, please let me inherit those genes!) Those of you who have kids may understand this, and those of you who don't probably will someday. I can look at other people's children and say, "Oh my goodness he/she looks just like (blank)!" But when I look at Adeline, she just looks like Adeline.

Well, in this photo, I can actually see the resemblance to my Mom. I hear she looks like David about 70% of the time and my Mom the other 30%. They will even have the same cute face shape when Adeline loses those little cheeks.

Andrea & Frank's Wedding

I'm a little late getting these online, but here are some pictures from Andrea's wedding two weeks ago. She was a BEAUTIFUL bride and they had a perfect day. I have been collecting all these pics from various sources. Since I was baby-watching most of the time, I didn't get to take many myself. I particularly love the picture of Andrea and Dr. Mark. I can only imagine what they are talking about there. And the one of David holding the flowers! Kinda lookin like a bridesmaid there honey!

The pajama pics are from the bridesmaid breakfast, which I really enjoyed. Debe Slocum, Ann Todd and Laura Ogg, etc. did a great job with that. The mugs in the pic were made by David's Aunt Debe and we got to keep them. So cute!

Two wonderful years today!

Happy Anniversary to us! David and I were married two years ago today. I have to say, we had much better weather than we are currently experiencing. Dave, I love being your wife and I thank you for putting up with me. We celebrated with a wonderfully relaxing (baby-free) weekend in Birmingham.

While in B-ham, we also made it to the Roten-Thompson wedding (that's Josh Roten for those of you who went to law school with us), and managed to get some quality time with David's cousin, Jeremy...who, by the way, has a fantastic loft apartment in downtown Birmingham.

Okay! I admit it!

I'm a hypocrite.....I have cursed and stomped around, all to complain about how blogs are going to eventually negate the need for person to person communication. Jenny, you'll likely remember such a conversation. But, the truth is, I have so enjoyed reading other people's blogs and though I don't feel like I have any profound observations to make or myths to dispell, I am intrigued by the "family blogs" as I'll call them. I've seen other people's, and they are primarily for the purpose of keeping family and friends updated on major events and to post family pics. Despite our sometimes boring existence, we do actually things to report most of the time. And my cutie pie little woman is prime picture material.

So, having explained myself, I only wish to add: if you're interested, add us to your list, check in from time to time and leave a comment to let us know you were here!
